Welcome to This Week In London Tweets sponsored by Orpheum Clustered Web Hosting
His twitter profile reads as follows; Musician, Audio pro, Foodie, Ottawa Senators fan. I was once blacklisted from a House Rabbit Society! Ask me the story. Really! So we asked him the story.
We opened the show with a very special intro and then started talking about London Twitter’s of all stripes (including us!) getting behind an effort to get CBC’s show Q hosted by Jian Ghomeshi to bring his show to London. This started with a single tweet from Ian and it has snowballed into a website, a video, facebook page and a hashtag #jianinldnont.
Local businesses and individuals have come to bat to donate services. For example Rtraction will donate $20,000 worth of web work to the charity of Jian’s choice. Our show sponsor Orpheum is also throwing in a year of webhosting for that charity of choice as well.
We then talked about another great London event Ignite London. Which has several friends of TWILT speaking.
Library filters were the next topic we talked, we then turned to the most ‘debated’ topic of the show. The city is looking to open two satellite Ontario Works / City welfare office in East and South London. A good passionate discussion followed and all agreed to disagree.
We then briefly touched on council delaying a decision on cameras in the Old East Village area. We all agreed that police boots on the ground do a much more effective job then cameras.
We also tried a live video stream for the first time tonight. It worked very well and thanks to those who joined us there. You can always go back and see the live stream which includes a few minutes before and after this show. Tonight post show we were treated to Ian playing some Prince on the guitar. We will try and continue it for future shows.
